Evaluation of WWRY and the Dance Show

In the dance pieces for We Will Rock you, I found the choreography quite easy to learn and pick up. The movement was quite basic and gestural so it wasn't very hard. The part I struggled with the most was the timing. I was in all four shows, and six dances. However, I only had a week to learn two of the dances as they needed one more person to make the numbers even. During the first performance, we lacked the energy needed to perform. This meant our performance skills dropped so we didnt project our voices or our movement enough. This could've been due to nerves or people not knowing the choreography. During one vision, where other people had rehearsed the piece more than others, the timing wasn't that good throughout. In order to ensure we don't make these mistakes during the next show we have to rehearse more with everyone. We also had an issue with seven seas of rhye. Before the third show, the pianist removed a section of the instrumental without telling us so in the dance we got lost because the music skipped and we didn't know where we were in the song or what to do. To make our performance better, we could've choreographed the marching a bit more so we all started on the same leg every time we started the marching.

I was in two numbers for the dance show. Both were completely different styles and techniques. The piece I was in for musical theatre consisted of quite basic movements, embellished with Indian hand gestures. The movement was simplistic and consisted of different dynamics. The other piece was a working progress showcase of my A level dance class' solo's. We created a group piece that showed how everyones solos was coming along and ended the piece in a unison section from Maxs' solo and Ella closed the piece with her solo. What I performed, I choreographed. This meant the movement was my own so it was easier for me to perform as I knew it a lot better than I did the Faultline piece. In the fight duet with Nathan, we could've made the movement more complex to push ourselves or used a number of choreographic devices (retrograde, change of levels, dynamics, instrumentation, etc.). Due to the theatre being quite small, the movements couldn't be performed very big. However, the lift me an Lois do in the centre of the circle went really well as it was big and she got quite high off the floor. The transitions between different sections were a weaker point as it was quite messy. People just ran or walked to where they needed to be. To improve the piece, we could've added a choreographed a travel section.
