I will be auditioning for either Reecey or Joe Casey. I have chosen to go for a male part as their songs, range and way they sing suits my voice more than the female roles.
Reecey
Reecey is shown throughout the play as the bad influence. He stopped going to school and started stealing cars and house braking. He's an intimidating character. This is shown when he enters the scene some of the other cast - such as Emmo and Lewis - hide or leave. He is Loud, confident and proud of what he does. He is a strong character. He has been in the young offenders institute and jail countless times and isn't afraid to go back or blame someone else for what happens. I'd imagine Reecey isn't very close with his family because he says "Is my mum here, she should be. It's usually about this time of the month she realises that I aint come down for my breakfast." This can portray he doesn't have much of a relationship with his mum as she doesn't notice him not being there. He only features in three songs; Baggy Trousers, Embarrassment and Shut Up.
Joe Casey
Joe Casey is the male lead. The show follows his life story when he's faced with the decision to run away or stay and face the music. If he runs, he follows the criminal path, loosing Sarah and staying on the criminal path. Where as if he gives himself up, he gets a criminal record, social exclusion but keeps the girl. The show follows the next seven years of his life while hes dealing with the consequences of that night. Whilst one Joe fights to keep Sarah, the other is marrying her in a glitzy Vegas wedding and, ultimately, while Good Joe fights to save his house on Casey Street, Bad Joe is determined to demolish it with tragic consequences. All this is watched over by Joe’s deceased father, who pulls the two stories together. Joe is a confident character with a lot of humor. However, he is determined not follow in his fathers criminal footsteps but ends up in the same place his father was. Throughout the piece, Joe believes his father just never came back and doesn't know he was killed shortly after being released from prison. Joe is featured in twelve songs.
